Countless lives lost, a hunt for weapons of mass destruction, a president who cant come up with any true justification for his actions. This sounds like the plot for the next episode of the show 24. Unfortunatley it isnt, its whats happening today in Iraq. Image obtained from(http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/d/d1/350px-10kMiles.JPG)Truth be told its is kind of hard to imagine the United States of America barging into China and try to set up a democracy, but President Bush gladly entered Iraq to "set up a democracy". This sounds very familiar and history has a funny way of repeating itself.
Imperialism is basically a weapon that has destroyed countries and built empires. The exact definition of imperialism is understood in relation to Empire building, as the forceful extension of a nation's authority by territorial conquest establishing economic and political domination of other nations.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperialism#cite_note-1) Wow it is frightening how what the United States is doing in Iraq fits into the definition like if it was a jigsaw puzzle. What is so ironic is that when the previous empires were built they were after land. During the time of the Roman empire land was power which is one of the main reasons they searched for it, but in present day Oil is power which is why the United States is after Iraq in the first place.
Could this be the start of a new empire? You decide.
