There is no way that the United States Government would get away with the devastation that the war has caused if they did not have an excuse to justify their actions. So in this blog i will try to understand and explain why the war is still going on and why it is necessary to still be fighting.On January 30, 2003 Michael T Claire from the Pacific News service stated that there were three main reasons for President Bush to go to war. All of these reasons are important in there own ways and they are a huge concern. The reasons that he stated were Eliminating Weapons of Mass Destruction, Combating Terrorism, and The Promotion of Democracy in Iraq and in nearby country's.( http://www.alternet.org/story/15069/) .
If the story was as the President said they were then hey, he would have every right in the world to be in Iraq right now but 1825 days, 43800 hours, 2628000 minutes, 157680000 seconds later there are still not even a hint of Iraq having Weapons of Mass Destruction. Im beginning to guess that there weren't any Weapons of Mass Destruction in the first place, but hey thats just a guess and just because its been proven it doesnt matter to the man who on Wednsday will stick to whatever he said on Monday no matter what happens on Tuesday.
Secondly, terrorism is a definite threat and by far no laughing matter but as we saw in the film in class The Polotics of Fear. There is no Alkaida or any type of secret network planning terrorism. Five years later we have basically taken over the country of Iraq and still not even a glimpse of a secret network of terrorist.
Finally and last but certainly not least who are we to go into Iraq and set up a democracy. Its jusst like Michael T. Claire said, "North Korea and Pakistan both pose a greater threat of Weapons of Mass Destruction and are far worse than Iraq" but we still arent in those country's or even in China trying to set up a democracy.
My personal opinion is that President Bush should stop using these excuses because they are beginning to rot or just admit that he is there for the Oil and just state the obvious because even the most naive person should see that the other side of the story is just a lie that does not make sense.
